Terms of Sale
Effective date: July 26, 2026
These Terms of Sale govern purchases made through A. Reiman, including purchases made through areiman.com and direct sales or invoices that expressly incorporate these terms.
By submitting an order or completing payment, you agree to these Terms of Sale together with the applicable object listing, our Shipping & Returns Policy, and our Privacy Policy.
About the Objects
A. Reiman offers historic, antique, vintage, and one-of-one objects selected for their age, craftsmanship, design, historical interest, or documented associations.
Each object is sold individually and may be subject to prior sale, withdrawal, correction, or reclassification before an order has been accepted.
Listings are prepared in good faith using the object itself, accompanying documentation, available research, catalogue records, comparison with related examples, and photography.
Historic objects may show:
- Wear associated with age or use.
- Repairs, restoration, or later alterations.
- Corrosion, oxidation, staining, fading, cracks, losses, or irregularities.
- Evidence of mounting, framing, storage, handling, or previous display.
- Incomplete, uncertain, or undocumented ownership histories.
- Variations in handmade construction, materials, dimensions, or finish.
These characteristics may form part of an object’s history and are described and photographed as clearly as reasonably possible.
Descriptions, dates, dimensions, materials, attributions, provenance statements, condition notes, and historical context should be read together with all catalogue photographs and stated limitations.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, measurements and weights are approximate.
Questions and requests for additional photographs, condition information, or available documentation are welcome before purchase.
Photography and Contextual Images
Catalogue photographs of the actual object are provided to document its appearance, materials, construction, marks, and condition.
Color and scale may appear differently depending on lighting, photography, screen settings, and the device used to view the website. Buyers should rely on the complete listing, dimensions, condition information, and available object photographs rather than a single image.
Some listings may also include clearly labeled AI-rendered or digitally created images intended to suggest historical context or contemporary display possibilities.
These contextual images:
- Are not catalogue photographs.
- Are not condition evidence.
- Are not representations of documented ownership or use.
- Do not depict the object’s verified original setting unless expressly stated.
- Should not be used to judge the object’s actual color, scale, construction, or condition.
The actual catalogue photographs and written object description control in the event of any inconsistency.
Availability and Order Acceptance
Because each object is one of one, an item may become unavailable before the website inventory has been updated.
An automated order confirmation acknowledges that an order has been received. It does not by itself guarantee availability or constitute final acceptance of the sale.
A sale is accepted when:
- Payment has been successfully received or authorized.
- A. Reiman has confirmed that the object remains available.
- No material pricing, listing, legal, payment, or fulfillment issue prevents the sale.
A. Reiman may cancel or decline an order before acceptance where:
- The object has already been sold or withdrawn.
- A material pricing or listing error has occurred.
- Payment cannot be verified or is identified as potentially fraudulent.
- The buyer’s information is incomplete or inaccurate.
- The object cannot legally or safely be shipped to the destination.
- Fulfillment would create a material legal, insurance, customs, safety, or shipping concern.
If payment has already been collected for an order that cannot be accepted, the amount collected will be refunded to the original payment method.
Prices, Taxes, and Payment
All prices are stated in U.S. dollars unless expressly indicated otherwise.
Applicable sales tax, shipping charges, insurance charges, packing costs, and other disclosed charges will be shown at checkout or confirmed before payment where a separate shipping arrangement is required.
Payment must be received in full before an object is released for shipment, collection, or delivery.
A. Reiman may use third-party payment processors to complete transactions. Payment-card information is processed by those providers and is not directly stored by A. Reiman.
A pricing or typographical error does not require A. Reiman to complete a sale at the incorrect price. If a material error is identified after an order is submitted, the buyer will be notified and may be offered the choice to proceed at the corrected price or receive a full refund.
Cancellations
A buyer may request cancellation before the object has been packed or released for shipment.
Once specialist packing, crating, conservation-safe preparation, courier booking, or freight arrangements have begun, documented and nonrecoverable costs may be deducted from a cancellation refund only where those costs were disclosed before they were incurred.
Once an object has been shipped, any request to return it is governed by the Shipping & Returns Policy.
A cancellation request is not effective until acknowledged by A. Reiman in writing.
Shipping and Delivery
Shipping is governed by the current Shipping & Returns Policy.
Objects are packed according to their material, age, scale, condition, fragility, and framing. Certain objects may require:
- Specialist packing.
- Custom boxes or crating.
- Additional handling time.
- Declared-value insurance.
- Signature confirmation.
- Courier, freight, or white-glove delivery.
- A separately confirmed shipping arrangement.
Delivery and dispatch dates are estimates unless a specific date is expressly confirmed in writing.
If an order cannot be shipped within the stated or legally applicable timeframe, A. Reiman will contact the buyer and provide the options required by applicable law, which may include consenting to a revised shipping date or cancelling the order for a refund.
A. Reiman is not responsible for delays caused by a carrier, customs authority, weather event, natural disaster, labor disruption, incorrect delivery information, or other circumstance outside its reasonable control. This does not limit any right the buyer may have regarding an order that has not been shipped or an insured shipment that has been lost or damaged.
International Orders
International sales may be offered only by prior arrangement or to destinations made available at checkout.
International buyers are responsible for determining whether an object may legally be imported, possessed, or transferred in the destination jurisdiction.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, the buyer is responsible for:
- Customs duties.
- Import taxes.
- Brokerage charges.
- Destination-country fees.
- Required permits or documentation.
- Import restrictions.
- Delays or examinations imposed by customs authorities.
A. Reiman may decline an international order where an object, material, destination, or shipping method creates a legal, customs, insurance, or conservation concern.
An object will not knowingly be shipped in violation of applicable cultural-property, endangered-species, sanctions, weapons, customs, or import-export laws.
Inspection Upon Delivery
The buyer should inspect the shipment promptly after delivery.
If an object appears to have been lost, damaged, or materially altered in transit, the buyer should:
- Retain the object and all packing materials.
- Photograph the exterior and interior packaging.
- Photograph the object and the damage as received.
- Contact A. Reiman within the period stated in the Shipping & Returns Policy.
- Avoid repairing, cleaning, reframing, mounting, or otherwise altering the object before the claim is reviewed.
Failure to retain the packing materials or provide reasonable documentation may affect the ability to pursue an insurance or carrier claim.
Returns and Refunds
Returns are governed by the current Shipping & Returns Policy.
A return must be requested and authorized before the object is sent back.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, a returned object must:
- Be in the same condition in which it was received.
- Include all accompanying documentation, mounts, cases, frames, or accessories.
- Be packed securely and appropriately.
- Be fully insured for its purchase value.
- Be returned using a trackable shipping method.
- Be shipped within the authorized return period.
The buyer may be responsible for return shipping, insurance, packing, customs, or related costs as described in the Shipping & Returns Policy.
An object that has been cleaned, repaired, restored, reframed, remounted, disassembled, conserved, altered, or damaged after delivery may not qualify for return unless the work was authorized in writing by A. Reiman.
Nothing in these terms limits return, refund, or consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.
Condition, Age, and Attribution
A. Reiman does not treat age as an excuse for failing to disclose a known material condition issue.
Significant cracks, corrosion, staining, wear, repairs, restoration, fading, losses, replacements, and uncertainties are disclosed where known and photographed where reasonably possible.
Attributions and provenance statements are made at the level supported by the available evidence.
Terms such as the following have different meanings and should not be treated as interchangeable:
- By indicates a supported identification of the maker or creator.
- Attributed to indicates a considered but unconfirmed attribution.
- Workshop of, circle of, school of, or follower of indicate different degrees of association rather than confirmed authorship.
- In the manner of or style of indicates stylistic association and does not establish period or authorship.
- After indicates that the work follows or reproduces another work.
- Associated with indicates a documented or reported connection whose exact nature may be limited.
- Dealer-attributed identifies an attribution originating with a prior seller or dealer rather than one independently confirmed as fact.
- Possibly, probably, and circa indicate stated degrees of uncertainty.
A catalogue attribution, dealer label, collection note, family history, authentication letter, exhibition reference, inscription, or period comparison may provide meaningful evidence, but it is not represented as proving more than the evidence reasonably supports.
An exhibition history means that an object was displayed in the identified exhibition or institution. It does not by itself establish museum ownership, museum provenance, or museum authentication.
Provenance and Documentation
Provenance is stated only to the extent supported by available records, inscriptions, labels, receipts, correspondence, collection histories, auction records, or other documentation.
Where a provenance statement comes from a seller, dealer, auction house, previous owner, family account, or accompanying note, the source and degree of certainty may be identified in the listing.
The absence of complete provenance does not necessarily indicate a problem, but it will not be replaced with unsupported assumptions.
Original documents, copies, research files, certificates, or other materials included with an object will be identified in the listing where relevant.
Unless expressly stated, research notes and historical context prepared by A. Reiman are not third-party authentication certificates or legal opinions.
Historical Context and Interpretation
Historical information is provided to help explain an object’s period, type, use, maker, imagery, institutional setting, or cultural significance.
A listing may distinguish among:
- Confirmed facts
- Documented provenance
- Catalogue or dealer attributions
- Supported interpretation
- Plausible possibilities
- Unknown or unresolved information
Historical interpretation may change when new evidence becomes available. A. Reiman may update a listing or object record to reflect corrected or expanded research.
Contextual discussion should not be read as proof that a particular object was present at, owned by, or used in a specific event unless the listing expressly states that the connection is documented.
Authenticity and Material Misdescription
Objects are sold as described in their individual listings, subject to the stated return rights and any legal rights that cannot be excluded.
A. Reiman does not provide a blanket guarantee that extends beyond the specific representations made in the applicable listing and accompanying documentation.
If a buyer believes an object is materially inconsistent with its listing, the buyer should contact A. Reiman promptly with the basis for the concern and any supporting documentation.
A difference of scholarly opinion, later reattribution, or newly developed interpretation does not automatically establish that a listing was materially inaccurate when prepared, particularly where the original listing clearly disclosed uncertainty.
Nothing in these terms excludes responsibility for fraud, intentional misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot legally be limited.
Legal and Shipping Restrictions
Certain materials and object types may be subject to restrictions based on age, material, origin, destination, or intended use.
The buyer is responsible for complying with laws that govern possession, importation, transfer, display, or use in the buyer’s jurisdiction.
A. Reiman may request additional information, refuse shipment to a particular destination, require specialist handling, or cancel a transaction where reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law or carrier requirements.
Descriptions of historic weapons, edged tools, institutional objects, political material, or other sensitive objects are provided for historical and collecting purposes. They do not represent advice regarding legal possession, transport, or use.
Intellectual Property and Reproduction Rights
Unless otherwise stated, the text, catalogue photography, research, graphics, design elements, and other original website content are owned by A. Reiman or used with permission.
They may not be reproduced, republished, distributed, modified, or used commercially without prior written permission.
Purchase of a physical object transfers ownership of that physical object only. It does not transfer copyright, publication rights, image rights, trademark rights, archival reproduction rights, or other intellectual-property rights unless expressly stated in writing.
Website Availability and Corrections
A. Reiman may correct errors, update research, revise descriptions, remove content, change prices, or withdraw objects from sale before an order is accepted.
The website may occasionally be unavailable or contain technical errors. A. Reiman does not guarantee uninterrupted access to the website, but will make reasonable efforts to address material errors affecting an order.
Applicable Law and Consumer Rights
These Terms of Sale are governed by applicable law in the jurisdiction in which A. Reiman is principally operated, without limiting any mandatory consumer protections that apply to the buyer.
If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
A failure to enforce a provision in one instance does not waive the right to enforce it later.
